The trend of bringing back the vintage and classic style into our lifestyle has recently become a rage. People are bringing back not only the fashion, makeup and songs from decades ago but also the home decor, as well as interior designs.

Previously, we have discovered five vintage home decor trend that is making a comeback in 2024. Whether from reading the previous article or stumbling upon a few videos on vintage interior design online, some of you may now be inspired to do the same! And you may be wondering, “How do we style our home vintage? Where do we get all the old vintage stuff?”

For some people, collecting vintage items would be their forte. They know every nook and cranny to find even the oldest and most difficult things from past decades. Now, for people like me, who want the easiest and most convenient way, fret not.

Let me show you four best places to go for vintage home decor and furniture in Klang Valley.

1/ The Gilded Lion Antiques, Art & Photographs

If you’re turning your home into a museum-like style, you may need to visit this place. The Gilded Lion Antiques, Art & Photograph is a place that sells a bunch of vintage items, not only from Asia but also Europe and Africa.

When you enter this store, you’ll be amazed by the variety of antiques from all over the world, each coming from different periods and styles. They have everything from furniture like table sets, coffee tables, and couches to decorative items such as lamps, chess tables, sculptures, statues, and beautiful mirrors for your mirror selfies! They also offer a wide range of rare books, vintage artworks and photography.

For me, the store itself is a sight to the sore eyes. It’s full of antiques and beautiful items, making the store look like an old historical museum even from the outside. Plus, it’s an extra point just because I love those things like statues and sculptures. You can blame it on my obsession with Greek and Roman myths when I was 15.

Different from the museum-infused The Gilded Lion, this store brings a retro feeling to every client that enters the store. TriBeCa Artisan is another store that you can visit to survey and buy items for your future vintage home.

TriBeCa Artisan offers their clients a variety of chic and distinctive pieces like drawers, lamps, colourful and patterned tiffins, table runners, porcelain vases, oversized mirrors, and many more vintage and retro items that stand out in style and uniqueness. Most of the items sold here come in styles from the ’50s to the ’70s. Look! You can also get a similar rattan chair like the one our grandmother has!

Not only is this store full of colourful items that you can fill your home with, but it is also a perfect store when you’re on the hunt for gifts for your vintage-craze friend. They have many small items like handcrafted kitchenware, bucket bags, and even Frida Kahlo-printed stools! Seriously, you have to buy one – it’s super cool!

3/ Yat Hang Trading

My grandmother always says the older the item is, the longer it lasts. I always believe she is actually talking about her kitchenware. And I also make sure never to bring her to this store, or she’ll never want to get out of this place. Yat Hang Trading is kitchenware heaven for mothers of all generations, especially those who love to collect ceramic kitchenware!

Yat Hang Trading’s modest journey had begun in a corner near the Kotaraya complex more than eight decades ago. Today, it has evolved into an incredible three-storey emporium that entertains all who are fond of antique ceramic kitchenware. Not only does this extraordinary establishment stock thousands of pieces of vintage cookware, but it has also expanded its product line to suit a wide range of events; Yat Hang also caters to housewarming, weddings, and birthday parties for older people.

If you want to buy more kitchenware and keep it within your budget, this place is an excellent alternative. At Yat Hang Trading, you can buy everything for only RM10 compared to the modern kitchenware stores! Remember to treat your mothers to a round of shopping now that you know this ceramic paradise is here.

If you’re trying to outfit your home in a mid-century modern style, let me introduce you to Recro Furniture. The store offers a plethora of hand-picked antiques, most of which date back to the 1950s and 1960s, a period characterised by the prevalence of minimalist design elements like straight lines, pencil legs, and seamless joints in furniture.

At Recro Furniture, you can purchase authentic vintage pieces such as chairs, tables, desks, sofas, and more. Remember that products of whatever they sell are strictly limited, so first come, first served. Recro was formerly Second Charm, a thrift shop that specialised in trade-ins before expanding into custom orders,  production, and customised service. Aisha Shaharuddin now runs Recro, while her mother, originally from Singapore, developed and oversees the operations of Second Charm. They also have expertise in furniture restoration that breathes new life into your worn-out old items.

So, if you have any old, vintage furniture, or possibly any of your grandparents’, don’t throw them away or buy a new one; Instead, send them to Recro Furniture and let them do the magic to revive the old pieces into something fresh and new.
