  • Teachers play a special role in our lives which is not always academically inclined.
  • We shed light on some of the other people you can celebrate on Teacher’s Day and why.

Just like each year, we celebrated Teacher’s Day on 16th May this year too. Now, let’s try to jog our memory and remember who else did we wish apart from our actual teachers.

The title ‘teacher’ isn’t just limited to the educators who’ve taught us from alphabets to algebras. Many people around us can take the form of a teacher, such as family and friends.

Yes, they’ve all helped with our studies at one point, but let’s look beyond that. They’ve also played a major part in shaping us into the person we are today. A person who has imparted any knowledge that we carry with us today is no different from a teacher to us.

We bet question marks are popping in your mind, trying to figure out the correlation between teacher’s day and the people around us. Well, this article answers all your who and why questions!

Of course, teachers top the list! Teacher’s Day would not have existed if it weren’t for all our amazing teachers! They leave tremendous impacts on our lives throughout our study period, and sometimes even after.

We can all agree that teachers are almost like our second parents. Their intense stares, strict tones, and rattan canes wrapped with masking tape definitely resemble our Asian parents. However, they shoulder the responsibility of educating not just one child but hundreds of them.

They’ve relentlessly imparted their knowledge to us and have always helped us climb the ladder of success, one step at a time. There’s also a lot of behind-the-scenes effort from them that is often overlooked.

Teachers deserve so much appreciation for pushing every student closer to their career goals and building a progressive nation through education.

You may think, our parents have already given us the gift of life, is there a bigger reason to celebrate them? Well, of course not, but we have to give thanks where it’s due right?

From knowing how to hold a milk bottle to riding a bike, it was all them! We all came into this world as clueless babies and our parents were our first-ever teachers. They held us by our pinky as we experienced every first of our lives.

Our personalities and wisdom are all fruits of their teachings. As kids we were like clay, our parents were the artists that moulded us into the person we are today. They instilled good values and virtues into us, which taught us how to differentiate right from wrong too!

So, it’s only right that we thank our first teachers on Teacher’s Day. After all, they don’t just do double duty but play multiple roles for us, making them the VIPs of our lives.

Siblings

After all the crazy things you’ve done together, you may think the role of ‘partner in crime’ suits your siblings best. Well, it’s time to rethink that! While growing up, your siblings were probably your coolest teacher but you just never realised!

When younger, everyone seemed ‘too old’ to us. This is when siblings, our heroes, came to the rescue! Whenever we needed someone to do mischievous or crazy things with, they always joined in! We basically learned how to be adventurous and explore new experiences from them.

Siblings are also the ones who taught us to trust. We’ve all had the whole “Don’t tell mummy, pinky swear!” phase as kids. Even as we age, we still confide in our siblings on matters that we shy away from our parents. They’ve also been a peer guide that has led by example, preparing us for new endeavours.

Don’t you think it’s time to say a little ‘thank you’ to them for being a mini and much cooler version of our parents?

Friends

Friends! We simply love them, don’t we? We have so much fun together that they’re almost family.

In a world where only change is constant, our friends have taught us to stay the way we are! Sometimes you might feel like you need to change to be accepted, but our friends preach otherwise. They’ve always embraced our crazy and clumsy side without judgement. Alessia Cara said it once, and we’ll say it again, “You are beautiful just the way you are”.

Besides, who else do we look for advice when we’re at crossroads? We’d yell ‘friends’ in a heartbeat! Friends have different backgrounds and each of them have different advice to offer. They’ve always been an outlet where we can openly share our thoughts and frustrations.

A human diary and an always-available confidant, who teaches us valuable lessons? Definitely something we should appreciate more!

Final thoughts

If you look back at your journey, you will realise how many ‘teachers’ have crossed your path and invested in you.

Not all of them acquired a bachelor of education degree, but they have certainly equipped you with invaluable life lessons that will take you a long way.

So for the next Teacher’s Day, who else would you like to celebrate apart from your teachers? Craft your list today and share it with us in the comment section below!
